About

My name is Claire (she/they) and I am a queer bisexual woman living a simple, minimalist life alongside my husband Christopher (he/they) in Alberta, Canada.

Polite Adjacent is a personal brand focused on doing the "unladylike" thing of talking about money.

Like so many of my fellow millennials, I thought getting a degree would guarantee me a comfortable life with a good job and all the material things I desired.

Now I have a master of science degree in my back pocket, multiple years of unemployment under my belt, and am working the best job I've had yet, selling baked goods part-time.

My husband and I have tracked our money since we moved in together in 2017 and are continuing to determine how much money we actually need to comfortably live an intentional life that is fulfilling based on our own standards.

We are making our money work for us, but we are also continuously learning that the easiest way to build wealth, overcome consumerism, and live simply is to just not buy so much stuff.

It may seem like a very obvious sentiment, but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Join me in this corner of the internet as I break down how we avoid purchases, share where we do spend big, and reflect on how our simple minimalist lifestyle continues to evolve.
